Faversham Magazine Editor

We are looking for a passionate, creative and community minded individual to be the Editor of our magazine for Faversham. This quarterly, uplifting print magazine is the eighth in our portfolio in Kent.

The ideal candidate will be full of ideas and able to work both independently and as part of a wider publishing team. The post-holder should live and be well connected in  Faversham and have editorial experience, preferably for a local magazine. They will need to be comfortable becoming ‘the face’ of the magazine and in forming and maintaining strong, positive connections within the Faversham community.

Duties include commissioning and curating content and working with the editorial, design, advertising and distribution teams to see the magazine through to publication. It is estimated that the role requires a minimum of 40 hours work per issue, four times per year (spring, summer, autumn and winter). The month before the issue is published is the busiest and requires the bulk of the work. It is essential that the postholder is able to organize their workload alongside other commitments, to work independently and flexibly from home or a workspace.

The role will commence in January 2026, so the spring 2026 issue (published in April) will be their first issue as Editor. Full training will be given from January 2026.

First interviews will take place between 17th and 28th November.

MARGATE MERCURY editor

Brightside Publishing is looking for an experienced, community-driven and creative individual to become the next editor of the Margate Mercury. The Margate Mercury is our most established and biggest publication in our portfolio of print titles.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about Margate and able to work both independently and as part of the wider publishing team. The post-holder should live in and be very well connected in Margate and have relevant editorial experience, preferably for a local magazine. They will need to be comfortable becoming ‘the face’ of the magazine and in forming and maintaining strong, positive connections within the Margate community.

Duties include commissioning and curating content and working with the editorial, design, advertising and distribution teams to see the magazine through to publication.

It is estimated that the role requires a minimum of 40 hours work per issue four times per year (spring, summer, autumn and winter). The month before the issue is published is the busiest and requires the bulk of the work. It is essential that the post-holder is able to organise their workload alongside other commitments, and to work independently and flexibly from home or a workspace.

This is a part-time freelance role with a set fee paid per issue. The fee varies according to the issue’s pagination, and is from £1050 per issue for an 80-page publication.

The role will commence in March 2026, so the summer 2026 issue (to be published from 21st May 2026) will be their first issue as editor. Full training will be given in March 2026 and there will be shadowing opportunities from January 2026. The following issues thereafter will be out on 27 August and 26 November.

Distributor

We are looking for a personable, organised, confident individual to distribute our quarterly magazine for Folkestone, the Folkestone Foghorn.

This freelance, part time role will commence with the Autumn issue, out 23 October 2025.

Key dates in which the distributor will need to be available for work are the weekends of 23 October 2025, 29 Jan 2026, 16 April 2026, 16 July 2026 and 22 October 2026.

The fee is based on the number of copies distributed. For 7,000 copies the fee is £350 For every additional 1,000 copies the fee increases by £50. 

Key Responsibilities:

• To collect copies of the new issue at our depot in Pysons Road, Thanet on the day of delivery for delivery to the launch venue and then distribution in the community.
• To distribute the appropriate number of copies to stockists working from the database and to be available for top-ups over the following weeks as/when required.
• To update and contribute information, distribution numbers and dates on the database after every distribution round.
• To communicate regularly with the Distribution Manager and in the Brightside distribution WhatsApp group.
• To take and upload photographs of the magazine at our stockists and share these with the Brightside team/Whatsapp group for updates on our social media.
• To liaise with stockists to provide the best POS for the magazines.
• To find and approach new stockists/advertisers to increase the reach of the magazine (commission-based).

Essential attributes:

• Lives in Folkestone and knows the town and the surrounding areas well.
• Available for all proposed publication dates (see above) plus top-ups as and when required
• A good sized reliable vehicle and clean driving license
• Access to the Internet and the ability to work on/update spreadsheets in Google Drive
• An excellent communicator
• Physically fit and able to carry copies of the magazine around town
• Comfortable dealing with a range of business owners
• Driven with a positive attitude and committed approach towards visiting stockists
• Happy to approach potential stockists
• Able to prioritise and manage time effectively and work independently

This freelance, part time role will commence with the Winter issue, out 20 November 2025. Key dates in which the distributor will need to be available for work are the weekends of 20 November 2025, 12 Feb 2026, 07 May 2026, 13 August 2026 and 19 November 2026.

The fee is based on the number of copies distributed. For 7,000 copies the fee is £350. For every additional 1,000 copies the fee increases by £50. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• To collect copies of the new issue from our depot in Pysons Road, Thanet on the day of delivery for delivery to the launch venue and then distribution across that weekend in the community. 
• To distribute the appropriate number of copies to stockists working from the database and to be available for top-ups over the following weeks as/when required.
• To update and communicate information, distribution numbers and dates on the database after every distribution round.
